Scenario Definition dialog box

The Scenario Definition dialog box allows the user to define a new scenario by entering the following information:

Scenario Selection

Defines which of the six predefined “sandboxes” will be used. By default, Sciforma will automatically select the first available scenario. If all the scenarios are already active or if the user manually selects a scenario already used, a warning will be displayed underneath the Scenario Selection.

Scenario Start Date

Only projects finishing after the selected date will be considered in the scenario. This is a mandatory field.

Scenario Copy From

Instead of creating a scenario from scratch (i.e., by creating a copy of the selected official versions), the Portfolio Manager may choose to copy one of the existing scenarios. Doing so would initialize the copies of Projects that are associated with the newly created scenario with the copies of the “ Copy From” scenario, instead of the current published versions. This would be used to simulate a slightly different version of an existing scenario without having to re-apply changes done to it.

Scenario Description

Free text to specify/describe what the scenario represents.

In addition, the Project Nature Parameters section allows the user to define which Nature of the Active Published Projects belonging to the selected Portfolio Folders should be considered in (i.e., copied into) the new scenario.

Note

Only the switches corresponding to the project Natures available in the selected Portfolio will be displayed.

The user can also specify if only some specific project Workflow State should be taken into account.

Upon validating the Scenario definition, the selected Projects will be saved as the specific version of Projects associated with the selected Scenario.

If the selected scenario was already active, the corresponding Project versions will be overwritten by the selected official Projects without any confirmation.

During this operation and beyond, the Tasks, Assignments, etc. as well as the Savings (i.e., Revenues), and Budgets of the selected Projects are also copied to allow for the simulation.

Once the Copy process is completed (this may take a moment depending on the size and number of projects), the Simulation mode is displayed.

Important

If the number of projects included in the scenario exceeds the maximum value of the “Set Portfolio Simulation Max. Project Records” option (set by the Administrator in the System Settings workspace, General Settings folder, Display Controls tab), the user will not be able to create his/her Scenario.
