How to review the Business Cases Ranking

While the Portfolio Manager is only in charge of the Business Case comparison and selection phases, he/she needs to keep in mind that Business Cases have been previously evaluated and scored by another user.

  1. Log in to the HTML5 client.

  2. Select the Portfolio Ranking workspace.

  3. Select a Portfolio folder in the Data Selector.

Ranking with points – Scoring

  1. Select either the Budget (viewmode_activerankingcontraint22_md.png) mode or the KPI (viewmode_activeranking22_md.png) mode.

  2. Click on the Charts (Charts) button.

  3. Select the TOP 5 – Project Strategy chart.

  4. Analyze the score of each Business Case.

Ranking with Priority

The priority is defined in the Leveling Priority field. This field specifies the priority of the project relative to other projects during leveling operations.

  1. Select either the Budget (viewmode_activerankingcontraint22_md.png) mode or the KPI (viewmode_activeranking22_md.png) mode.

  2. Click on the Charts (Charts) button.

  3. Select the TOP 5 – Project Strategy chart.

  4. Analyze the priority of each Business Case.

Note

The lower the number, the higher the priority. Projects with high priority are less likely to be delayed during leveling operations.

Ranking with Budget

A budget identifies the planned expenditure for a project, program, or portfolio. It is used as a baseline against which the actual expenditure and predicted potential cost of the work involved in a project can be reported.

  1. Select the Budget (viewmode_activerankingcontraint22_md.png) mode.

  2. Promote Business Cases in the "In Scope" pipeline by clicking on the (AddRoundGreen) button.

    Note

Only Business Cases that are "In Scope" are taken into account in the Budget spreadsheet values.

  3. Exclude the Business case from the "In Scope" pipeline by clicking on the (Circle-minus.png) button.

  4. Compare the potential projects with each other in order to identify the most interesting ones.

    Note

The Portfolio Budget is the budget associated to Cost Centers that have been entered in the Portfolio Center workspace, Budget tab, Portfolio Budget mode.

The Free Budget is equal to the Portfolio Budget minus the Budget allocated to Projects (that is to say the budget of the ongoing projects belonging to the selected Portfolio folder).

The Available Budget is equal to the Portfolio Budget minus the Budget allocated to Projects minus the Total Cost of “In Scope” Business Cases.

Ranking with Financial Metrics – NPV, ROI, and KPI
