How to turn an Idea into a Work Item

  1. Log in to the HTML5 client.

  2. Select the Ideas Center workspace, Ideas Grid.

  3. Click in the Workflow State Vote cell of the Idea you wish to turn into a Work Item to display the pick list, then select the New object option.

    OR

    Click on the Open button available on the right-hand side of the Idea Name to open the Idea Card, then click on the Workflow State Vote to display the pick list and select the New object option.

    Settings

    The New object option is only available if the Default Idea Workflow associated with the Idea Folder or the Idea Type is "Workflow with objects".

    The Default Idea Workflow associated with Idea Folders or Idea Types can be set in the System Data workspace, Ideas tab, Idea Folders sub-tab and/or Idea Types sub-tab.

  4. In the prompted Create and Connect popup:

    1. Select the Work Item object type.

    2. Select the work item type (Action, Deliverable, Issue, or Change Request).

    3. Then, select a category (Project, Portfolio Folder, or Work Package).

      Note

      If you want to go back to the work item type, click on the EditColor icon available on the left-hand side of the “Select work item type” label.

  5. A selector popup is displayed, enabling you to chose the project/portfolio folder/work package to which you wish to attach the Work Item.

  6. Once the project/portfolio folder/work package has been selected, the Work Item Card is displayed, with the Connections section activated.

Note

Only Ideas that have previously been set to Submitted can be set to New object.

Note

Clicking on the Cancel button at any stage in the Create and Connect popup will close the popup and put the Idea Workflow State back to Submitted.

Important

If you delete an idea, the created Work item(s) will not be deleted.
