The Capacity Planning workspace has been designed to help Resource Managers review the upcoming effort for their Resources and Cost Items, taking into consideration the ongoing projects along with the projects that have been validated.
The goal of the Resources capacity planning view is to be able to select Projects across Portfolios (Published versions) and review their impact on the Resource Capacity.
Resource Managers can use the following filtering fields in order to narrow down the scope of the analysis:
Hide Inactive Resources | Allows the user to display or hide Inactive Resources. |
Organizations | Opens a list of Organizations, from which the user can make one or several selections. |
Job Classifications | Opens a list of Job Classifications, from which the user can make one or several selections. |
Skills | Opens a list of Skills, from which the user can make one or several selections. |
Contract Type | Allows the user to select whether to only display Internal Resources, External Resources, or both. |
Resources | Allows the user to select specific resources in a list. Note Only Resources assigned to the selected project(s) will be available for selection. |
Project Nature | Opens a pick-list from which the user can select a specific Project Nature. |
These filtering fields will impact:
The list of Projects (both in the Gantt and in the charts): only Projects with at least one assignment with the combination Organization/Job Classification would be displayed.
The charts Available Effort, Forecast Effort, and Total Effort.
Three charts are provided, allowing the user to analyze the workload:
Total Workload Chart –The Total Workload chart allows the user to compare the Total Effort of all the selected projects with the Forecast Effort and the Available Effort.
Detailed Workload Chart – The Detailed Workload chart allows the user to compare the Total Effort of each selected project with the Forecast Effort and the Available Effort.
External Workload – The External Workload chart allows the user to compare the cumulated External and Internal Effort values with the Total Effort.
The user can take advantage of the Time Navigation Toolbar to display various time frames for the charts.
By default, the Gantt section provides the following Project attributes: Name, Nature, Start, Finish, and Portfolio Folder.
The user can take advantage of the spreadsheet customization options and the zoom controls to display any relevant data.
Clicking on the Gear () icon opens the Project Brief dialog box of the corresponding project.
On the right-hand side, the Gantt graphic pane displays:

The selected projects Baseline (violet bar)
Today’s Date (dotted vertical line)

Resource Managers can use the following filtering fields in order to narrow down the scope of the analysis:
Hide Inactive Cost Items | Allows the user to display or hide Inactive Cost Items. |
Organizations | Opens a list of Organizations, from which the user can make one or several selections. |
Cost Items | Clicking on the Edit () button allows the user to select some Cost Items so that only data regarding those selected cost items will be displayed. Note Only Cost Items assigned to the selected project(s) will be available for selection. |
Cost Item Category Name | Opens a pick-list from which the user can select a Cost Item Category Name. |
Cost Item Unit Group | Opens a pick-list from which the user can select a Cost Item Unit Group. |
Project Nature | Opens a pick-list from which the user can select a specific Project Nature. |
These filtering fields will impact:
